When you start using this device it will become apparent that you will use it on every fishing trip. To avoid purchase of AAA batteries try using the 12 volt adapter. You will never have to purchase another battery. The 12 volt adpater attaches into the battery compartment and you can hook it up to any portable or boat 12 volt battery
